My job is the same i have been in post since July, but not officially got the job, but they are planning to put someone else in my old post before sorting my new posting out, so I could effectivly be out of a job if everything goes wrong :x

No, no - Laura will be fine. It's not like the job is a promotion, it's just different. And self-employed really. Anyone know anything about self-assessment tax?

gluing little jewels onto rubik's cubes for my daughter. 3 hours of frustration later, I have 3 nice shiny cubes for her. The things we do for our kids

Congratulations, Laura! So what is your "official" title now?

...and glueing jewels on Rubik's cubes? I think I've heard it all now.

Today I've mostly bin...
dismantling and reassembling a piano/ lugging it in and out of the car and into a shopping centre. My daughter volunteered to play (as part of the Guildford music festival) in a shopping centre today, and only found out yesterday they weren't supplying the piano. Good old Mum to the rescue! So I've driven 90 miles, half killed myself, AND got fleeced for lunch afterwards by both the kids! :x Still, the music was nice...

;) Been there, done that. Start right and make your life much easier at the end of the year. I can help you with the way I do it, but I'm not an accountant (or ofher official bod).

Official job title - piano teacher (v. glamorous).

The piano thing has happened to me several times. It's even more annoying when you're doing it for nothing, and they tell you at the very last minute. I now check before I agree to do anthing like that, that they actually have a piano for me to play.

Bunnylump I hope it was an electric piano. Mine takes two burly men to get it moving on it's casters, and even then it's hard going.

Yes, thank goodness it was an electric piano. But it was one of the proper ones, full size keyboard, with sides and 3 pedals. We had marvellous fun trying to make sure all the screws went back in the right places. I haven't assembled a piano on a shopping centre floor before. But there's a first time for everything!! :D

And yes, Laura, we'll live and learn!

Can I borrow you for my summer production of Joseph? I have no idea what to do with mics, and am definitely not technically minded!

Well done Laura, great news!

Keep all your receipts for anything that you can reasonably claim to have been spent in the course of doing your job. And Inland revenue bods can actually be quite helpful if you ring them with a query.

I've mostly bin......I'm going to the local dehydration festival. (Music festival where they cram 50+ hot people into a small classroom and expect them to appreciate the music). There all weekend. :|

No, the school's in Sheffield, so it'd be a long run. You might end up with some virtual queries though, along the lines of 'I've plugged everything in where it's meant to be and it's still not working - what's wrong with it?'

You know, the really annoying kind where you can't possibly know the answer!!!!

From personal experience that particular scenario means either you have the volume control turned right down, you have the speakers wired together instead of via the amp, desk or whatever, and the biggie is you haven't swithced the power on  I've done them all

 Looks like you've got yourself a job there, Richard.

Kathlyn, that sounds like fun. How did yours turn out? If I tried to paint a larger than life anemone it'd end up looking rather more like an Ewok. (Just showing off new-found knowledge, there!! )

I've been trying to do puzzles that i can't do all day instead of housework.
