Re: Word Zendo
Novice evilkeen, you are indeed correct that beginnings are better than a start
And Novice Laura is right, in that the Buddha admires words that contain a palindromic group of at least three letters.
Now, I am sure that Squirrel actually got it, but because of the friction between us, he didn't want to give the answer. But this is not the place for being stro-

Right then! I think this is me!
Ah! Welcome, students, one and all, to this little quest I lead,
The pathway to enlightenment is a simple one, indeed.
To make me smile, and tax your brains, please question me in verse,
And do not worry, your attempts, than mine, could not be worse!
Please understand, the rule you seek is not that words should rhyme.
I only thought it might be fun, and help to pass some time!

Cor blimey this is difficult
I wonder, may I ask
Will the Buddha let us see his face
Or does he wear a mask?

There once was a flower named Laura
Who thought we would listen to flora
But to question in verse?
Things must have got worse -
The best thing to do is ignore 'er.

Thank you Mistress, we will try
To write in verses which we espy
In our heads where they seem sharp,
But when we write them they are carp

You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it.

LOL at Scurra, he's a card
But I admit it's very hard
My brain, it seems, is going soft
As I sit typing in my loft.

Once again I do my part,
Should I make a start?
Or would I win,
if I were to begin?

Re: Word Zendo
Goodness, you’re enthusiastic!
But my arms are not elastic.
All these gifts you try to bring
I cannot to take to our king.
Face and mask are both ok,
As is flower, but I’m sad to say
That flora just can’t be allowed.
Miss Bunnylump should not be proud,
For neither of her gifts are kept,
While hard and soft are both o’erstepped.
Begin and start and right and wrong,
However, may all come along.

bright green is hardly seen
please change it to a darker green

Kathlyn 'tis clear is very wise
That awful green doth hurt my eyes
This game I think is quite absurd
I cannot find a suitable word
The master needs to shed some light
and indicate which words are right.

Re: Word Zendo
Well this is indeed a hard one,
each rule I try - I am undone;
But anyway I will suggest,
That with a light the Buddha will be impressed;
but that when I entertain him on the harp,
he will find it much too sharp;
Meanwhile I am right in thinking,
that Scurra the title of Poet Laureate should be getting;
As he guessed words both bad and good,
or have I the rules misunderstood?

Re: Word Zendo
If I had used the green and red
Then I'd agree with what you said.
Alas, I lost my nerve and just
Submitted words I liked the look
Of - and surprised I did not bust
Out when that random chance I took.
So this time I will ask the Master
Does she like death or just disaster?
Then I'd agree with what you said.

Ah yes I see we need distinction,
in order to be part of the action;
The Buddha cannot be party
to too much similarity

Re: Word Zendo
Mistress Laura, this is a tough task,
and I marvel at your fine talent.
I find myself driven to ask,
And enquire of the Buddha so gallant
Whether he approves more of a toad
Despite being warty and green,
Than a frog whose legs may be bowed
And really shouldn't be seen?

Re: Word Zendo
Or does the Buddha now enjoy
A thing he played with as a boy?
I'll try again to make a rhyme,
Better than the other time -
I'm off'ring you these words for now:
Could it be trumpet? What a row!
Or something sweeter to the ear
How about a cymbal clear?
A thing he played with as a boy?

Re: Word Zendo
I thank you for your kind advice,
The darker shade is really nice.
But darker's not the way to go,
and neither's bright, despite its glow!
Nor is absurd, or similarity,
But other words show clarity.
Toad, word and frog all have distinction,
with death and disaster, though leading to extinction,
in being words that Buddah prizes,
with light and harp, though none are wise as
Bunnylump, whose offerings
are both among Buddah's favourite things.
(I'll have to confer with the Buddah, or anyone else who knows, whether a correct and incorrect word are counted, when it is not indicated which is which?)

Yes, EvilKeen's last offerings
Are fit to earn the right to guess -
Whereas my own yet valid things
do not deserve, I must confess.

Re: Word Zendo
If students do not make it clear
What they intend, then I fear
That they could thereby miss their chance
To learn of Buddha and make advance,
Even if their words do show
the Buddha nature, it's a no.
The Master (or Mistress) will inform
The resultant info, as per the norm,
But the student cannot make a claim
To make a guess, and that's a shame.
If colour's used, it matters not,
As long as the master (or mistress) can spot
Which word is offered as the true
And which is held to be undue.
So my teacher, I must enquire
Whether the Buddha believes it higher
To own a camel which he would prefer
To a stubborn mule, as it were.
