I personally think the ancient Egyptians playing animal bones sounds a lot more interesting that all the 'normal' music history. Composers... dates....blah....symphony number....blah....blah....

BORING!!!!

Although it did remind me that I needed to finish that G&S puzzle off. [Oh, what a giveaway.]
My thought too. I look forward to the puzzle Scurra (if it exists?)

I'd personally prefer a G & T puzzle.

I nearly suggested another one with two initials and an & in the middle but then I remembered it's a family forum.

Are we talking about what Scurra is when he sets the puzzles and what we are to attempt to solve them?

G & T - applies to me. Gormless and thick.

G I T - applies to Scurra.

Sense and Sensibility, for my book club. Have really enjoyed other Jane Austen, but can't get into this at all. :( Shame, as I was looking forward to it.

Edit: I even managed to get the title wrong. It's actually Mansfield Park :?

Try reading a synopsis first. There are loads to be found on the net.

Yes, I sort of know what happens (not a lot) but I'm just finding it hard going. Not nearly so "accessible" as Emma, Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey.

I did Mansfield Park for A level. Fanny is so wet you just want to slap her, but I think the story is ok. My favourite one is Northanger Abbey, partly because I get the impression JA wasn't taking it too seriously. I haven't read any of them for years, perhaps it's time I reread them.

Well, don't start with this one!

I did Northanger Abbey for A level. So much for A levels getting easier!!

I was supposed to have studied about 6 books for my A level English. At the time I was far more interested in sex, drugs and rock and roll, so consequently only actually managed to read 3 of them. I still managed to pass though!! :o

Well, if you want a G&S puzzle, I've got one available.

Dunno. What have you got to offer??

(Mind you I don't know much about music. It's all the rest of them that do that.) I know nothing whatsoever about G & S.

And all I know about Gilbert and Sullivan is that I HATE it!!!! Especially Pirates of Penzance after having it forced upon me as the school play last year. I won't be much help I don't think!!!

I'm on the other side of this one - I learned about G&S after meeting my wife - she was in various societies, and I saw a few shows in my first couple of years with her. I find the music quite melodic, and the lyrics can be clever and/or cheeky (which is why he didn't become a 'Sir' - annoyed too many people with his words).

Since I like London and the tube system, and I'm getting nowhere with the current mag, I think it's all irrelevant anyway ;)

Why am I suddenly thinking of Scurra as a man with a little list????

Well, I had to study some Gilbert and Sullivan for my degree. I have found that, in general, if I was made to study it, I both hate it, and know nothing about it. The stuff that I didn't study, I enjoy and can remember things about.
