Stupid Road Names
We were sat at some traffic lights this afternoon and became aware the the road off to the right was called
Bumblehole Meadows
I just wondered what other really daft road names were out there?

We have a friend whose Road is called "Cock-a-dobby" no Road or Street after it, just Cock-a-dobby! And another friend lives in Lugtrout Lane which always used to cause much mirth. Where do they get them from?

Re: Stupid Road Names
There are a few bizarre streets local to me.
There's Wooperton Street, Avenue Road, Jesty's Avenue, Cross Road, Lynch Lane, Quibo Lane, Short Road, Whynot Way, Higher End, Great Western Terrace, Rocky Knap, Bodkin Lane, Puddledock Lane and Roman Road, and one street is called Mawdywalls.
On Portland are Avalanche Road and Bumpers Lane.
Head to Dorchester, and find Brutus Close, Martyr Close, Smokey Hole Lane and even Monkey's Jump Roundabout!
And there's a little cluster of cottages called Knights in the Bottom!

Loving some of these. My favourites locally are Uranus Avenue and Cherry Bounce.

Re: Stupid Road Names
There is a housing estate round here where all the roads begin with D and another where they all begin with H. Now what sort of a stupid idea is that? So you have Danesfield Close next to Deansfield Way etc. I pity the poor Postman. It doesnt seem to have caught on as an idea.
Re: Stupid Road Names
We have Broadway in Wakefield. It's not a stupid roadname, but it really doesn't live up to the image the name creates!!! I mean, it is broad, but its really not like the famous Broadway.

Re: Stupid Road Names
In the last place I lived we had 2 dirt/farm type tracks. One was called Long Lane and the other was Short Lane.
You've guessed it; Long Lane went for about a mile or so and ended at a lake. Short Lane went all the way to the next village roughly 4 miles away.
Also, we have a Jerusalem in Lincoln. It's not immediately recognisable as middle eastern and/or sun baked though.
Ha BB.

Northern Ireland has got to win hands down for weird street names.
My favourite is Semicock Road. It makes me laugh it's so rude. I wouldnt live there even though they are beautiful houses!!!

Re: Stupid Road Names
Actually, we do have Alldicks Road near here too!
Mind you, some of the "twee" names they seem to come up with are just as stupid, but in a different way. I'm thinking of "Lyrical Way" for example. We also have a grotty trading estate called "Paradise". And then there are the ones where they are just trying to be funny, for example, in Luton I noticed a business park called "Capability Green".
